Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI) is pleased to announce that Dr. Stanley Berke will celebrate his 25th year working in their Lynbrook office. A resident of Rockville Centre and a founding partner of OCLI, Dr. Stanley Berke began working for OCLI on July 1, 1986.
Dr. Stanley Berke is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma treatment and cataract surgery. Dr. Berke graduated magna cum laude from State University of New York at Buffalo with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. After completing his ophthalmology residency at Nassau County Medical Center, where he served as chief resident, he completed a fellowship in glaucoma and cataract surgery at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Berke is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and is a fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Nassau Surgical Society and Nassau Academy of Medicine. Dr. Berke is also Chief of Glaucoma Service at Nassau University Medical Center.

Dr. Robert Broderick of Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI)’s Manhasset office was at the Manhasset Library on Wednesday, April 27 where he discussed cataract surgery and premium lenses available that correct vision and eliminate the need for glasses after cataract surgery. He also discussed a new medical breakthrough in laser cataract surgery that adds a new level of precision and predictability to the procedure that simply was not possible with conventional manual surgery. OCLI doctors are currently using this new laser technology at the Island Eye Surgicenter in Carle Place. Island Eye Surgicenter is only the fourth surgical facility in the US to acquire this advanced technology.

In a potential breakthrough designed to provide greater precision in treating a common eye disease, a Long Island ophthalmologist has performed the area’s first cataract surgery with a laser.
Dr. Eric Donnenfeld this week performed the first cataract operation with a laser on Long Island at Island Eye Surgicenter in Carle Place using the Alcon LenSx Femtosecond Laser.
The Food and Drug Administration in 2009 approved the LenSx laser to perform cataract surgery. The first U.S. procedures were done in February 2010 in Houston, Texas, by Dr. Stephen Slade. Continue reading →

In an ASCRS interview just posted on Ophthalmology Web, OCLI’s world-renowned ophthalmologist, Dr. Marguerite McDonald, discusses the benefits of incorporating the TearLab Osmolarity System to manage dry eye patients more effectively.
Dr. McDonald says that having an objective measurement provided by the TearLab device creates efficiencies in dry eye patient management, as well as providing practice differentiation.

Dr. Eric Verruto, OD, an Optometrist who specializes in laser refractive surgery consultations and post-operative care, has joined the practice of Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island (OCLI). A resident of Westbury, Dr. Verruto also specializes in post-op refractions, contact lens fittings and primary eye care. Prior to joining OCLI, Dr. Verruto served as the clinical director of a large refractive surgery practice on Long Island. He has participated in multiple volunteer missions to various countries to provide free eye care and eyeglasses to impoverished communities. He is also fluent in Spanish.
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Verruto to our team of experienced and dedicated staff of eye care professionals at OCLI,” said Tom Burke, CEO, OCLI. “He will prove to be a great addition to our continuing efforts to meet and exceed our patients’ needs.”
Dr. Verruto received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stony Brook University and his Doctorate of Optometry in 2006 from the State of New York College of Optometry in Manhattan. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the New York State Optometric Association.
